By the end of Dragon Age: Origins , a new ruler is chosen for Ferelden. A lot leads up to the decision, as King Cailen dies at the hands of Darkspawn at the beginning of the story and the player carves their way to the capital to stop Teryn Loghain's rule.
A popular king choice among fans is from their inner circle, the Grey Warden Alistair. After all, it is revealed that he has royal blood in his veins. He is a bastard son of Maric. He personally has no desire to rule, but many fans would argue that is a good trait for a king. However, since Alistair is not exactly rushing for the crown, players do have to work for him to become the new King.
There are a couple of things players must do to get Alistair to rule. How you deal with Loghain at the Landsmeet has a strong influence on whether Alistair can become king or not. There are two methods depending on whether you want Loghain alive or dead. Killing Loghain is the easiest method to Alistair becoming King. His death is an important matter to Alistair. He will be killed by Alistair himself if he is chosen to face Loghain in one-on-one combat.
There's only one chance to do this and it isn't obvious when the chance occurs. Proceed through the game until you've gathered an army from each of the factions. The next leg of the quest is to go to Denerim. Visit your camp before entering Denerim. You'll find Alistair by the campfire. Speak with him and he'll mention that he has plans to visit his sister in the city. Agree to accompany him. Enter Denerim and then go to Goldanna's House, which is at the edge of the marketplace by the blacksmith.
If he does not fight the duel, Alistair will leave the choice to the Warden, but will insist on being made king. If the Warden spares Loghain, Alistair will now agree to marry Anora instead of leaving, provided they had previously agreed to marry. He will still leave the Warden's party, but will be around during the Epilogue.
This is the only way that both Alistair and Loghain can live without Alistair being exiled. Leliana [ ] Leliana will no longer object to some of the morally questionable choices made by the Warden.
If a Human Noble Warden is in a romance with Leliana but agrees to marry the new ruler, then Leliana will now be willing to stay on as the Warden's mistress. Denerim , The Pearl : Similarly to Alistair, she can be asked to join a threesome with Isabela, or a foursome if Zevran is allowed to come along.
Urn of Sacred Ashes : Leliana will now not turn hostile if the Warden defiles the Urn and you successfully intimidate her. This section contains spoilers for : Dragon Age: Inquisition. Regardless of choices in Origins , Leliana will always be hardened at the start of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Appropriately, she can be softened.
