Merlin , Sep 4, Joined: Jul 1, Posts: 4, Profile Page. I was in a Service Center to buy some Water Wetter. Since I had just replaced a leaking aluminum radiator, I went with Purple Ice.
However, a well planned cooling system shouldn't need anything. The hottest my cars ran were once the cooling system was sorted out. GassersGarage , Sep 4, Joined: Jan 29, Posts: Profile Page.

Joined: Aug 24, Posts: Profile Page. Water Wetter simply serves to increase the surface area of the water to enhance cooling system efficiency. You can achieve the same thing for free with just a bit of dish soap from the kitchen sink. Just open the radiator cap, squeeze in a few tablespoons worth of dish soap, put the cap back on and voila.
I know it sounds crazy and then the whole "soap suds" thing comes to mind, but the cooling system is sealed, and the small amount of dish soap in relation to total cooling system capacity isnt really high enough to make it all sudsy. I have used this trick for years in both stock applications and high performance applications and it too lowers temps by degrees on average. It is all about surface area!!!! Increase the surface area, increase cooling efficiency.

Isettadon Don Becker. My opinion is if you have a sufficiently large enough radiator to handle the load, you don't need additives. Also you must have the air flow ducted to the radiator correctly to get maximum flow. Had a friend who used water wetter in his sx ITS car and it would still overheat on the high banks of Daytona- needed a bigger radiator. We have used double flow radiators in dirt track race cars with just water and an anti rust additive with good results.
I have another dirt track racer friend who cured his overheating by simply sealing the edges of the radiator and adding a shroud over the fan.
If your are considering it for street use, I have never had overheating problems with a properly sized and clean cooling system. Old radiators tend to become restricted with use. Just changing the mix of antifreeze has never shown me any resulting cure. Air flow and coolant flow are the big concerns. Paul Paul H. I run Red Line water wetter in my Porsche. It does not make a difference in lowering the overall temperature - this is determined by the thermostat, but does make the cooling system more efficient.
Mainly it helps reduce the hot spots that cause gasket failures and head warping. The reduction in head hot spots and reduction in water pump cavitation is just as important as reducing the overall temperature. Items 68 and 69 will help considerably in making that happen. They work. In reply to by Isettadon My opinion is if you have a sufficiently large enough radiator to handle the load, you don't need additives.
Steve S. Years ago out of curiosity in an older MG I ran pure water for 10 miles, added Water Wetter and immediately went out on the same route. I noted a 2, maybe 3 degree difference. So it does work but it isn't intended to be a miracle cure or anything.
Correct, not a miracle, made for a specific issue and it does that very well. Street cars is not it. Curious if it does help with localized hot spots. Never heard they are an issue with MG, but are on my Stag. GeorgeOhr Nonya Business.
Yes, confused, USA. This was his own vehicle and he was a sharp tech. Gerry Gerry Masterman. WW and water, that's it. I found that it did make a difference in engine temp. Car ran cooler by 15 degrees or so. The problem with both was that the water turned rusty read in a short period of time.
Temp went back up but no more rust. IMHO it is not worth the rust it causes. Add WW to antifreeze? That I did not try. I tried Water Wetter in addition to antifreeze. Hi everyone - can some of you knowledgable types who've tried the stuff recommend a particular brand of water wetter that works?
And what sort of results did you see in terms of temperature drop? I'm sure there are others too, but any info you may have would be useful. Thanks in advance. Find More Posts by Paul D. South of Watford just. Find More Posts by greenamex2. Find More Posts by Notso Swift.
