Is it possible to deduce like sherlock holmes

Hollywood and TV sitcoms gossip. But what is the foremost important thing in deduction is to observe. Observe everything around you acutely. For example take a wall writing that somebody has written something on it. Now from outside it means nothing except its literal meaning. Now the height at which the word is written will indicate the height of the person. A person usually starts writing on boards and walls at his eye level.

So height can be easily deduced. If the word is going in an upward direction it will indicate his subconscious state which is that of a higher ambition.

If the direction is falling down it indicates a state of depression or stress. Also notice he is writing it on a wall which is accessible to many people which confirms the previous fact that he is not in possession of it. Now let us get back to the wall, if the wall was whitewashed and the letter is still there, carefully scratch the word and check after which layer of whitewash it becomes invisible. Now all you need to know is that when that wall was whitewashed.

Check the location of wall and note down the room in which it is located. Also check it up at whitewashing registers when was the house dealt with. Also check the sign against the house indicating its owner at that time. But these differences meant that my immersion into Sherlock's world was all the more exciting. In my brain, I've always fashioned myself a bit of a detective. I'm also a very detail-oriented person, and pride myself on being able to catch tiny errors and anachronisms, especially in writing.

I have a strange habit of accidentally memorizing information, especially phone numbers, which comes in handy a lot of the time. Oh, and I love to eavesdrop. I thought with all of these qualifications, that going Holmes this week would be a piece of cake. But, I soon learned that in reality, being Sherlock Holmes is nowhere close to elementary.

The game is afoot! The easiest spot to Holmes it up was on the subway for sure. Filled with a changing cast of characters, there were millions of deductions to be made, particularly in my longer commutes from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Every time I stepped on the train, I'd start playing what I labeled in my mind as "The Deduction Game," where I'd examine a person near me and try to decide where they were going, where they were coming from, what their life was like, etc.

As Holmes says, "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. I looked at the man next to me's work boots and imagined him coming home from a day's work in construction. Narrow down the choices based on what you know about the person.

If they have a book with them, they probably aren't trying to appear smart but maybe need the glasses. But that might be premature. Do they have a special tint? Can you tell based on looking through the lens if they distort your vision?

Once you assign meaning, try to spend time getting the details of the glasses. How old are they? What's the brand? What does the style say about the person? Are there any nicks or scratches? Are they dirty? Asking and answering these questions, will go a long way towards making a deduction about the person.

Now that you have a sense of assigning meaning to your observations, let's dive into the real life deduction. For the following sections, I will group the observations and deductions into how they play into the overall deduction. This observation, in itself, could mislead us when we are interpreting the world around us. Being pretty and young as a woman can mean a lot of things.

Depending on where she grew up, how much she used or didn't use these assets, how much she assigns current value to these qualities, etc But for this observation and deduction, this information is almost useless unless we know more about her. Assigning age and gender have value, but without history and context, they become nothing more than generalizations.

Or they should stay that way in our mind. They shouldn't tell us what the person is capable or like. They should be neutral to us.

On average, I can say that pretty young woman like hanging out with their friends, messing around on the internet, posting on social media, etc This doesn't mean that the girl I am currently observing enjoys any of those things. She has simply fallen into what I call the "all together" description. What do pretty young woman like to do in your country? It should also be noted that "pretty and young" are descriptors that are relative to me.

These words may evoke different images in your mind. Depending on which country you are from and what you have been raised to believe "pretty and young" to be, my assigning that to her may be of little value to you. Avoid these when you are making deductions unless you can pursue what they actually mean in context to the person. Ethnicity isn't so important when we observe with the intention of making a deduction.

But understanding this can maybe give us some clues about values and shared experiences. For example, people that live in America have steering wheels that are found on the left side of the vehicle and drive on the right side of the road whereas in Japan the steering wheels may be found on the right side of the vehicle and they drive on the left. This is a shared experience and something that is universal.

Finding these universally shared experiences can help us if we are using ethnicity to make deductions. Otherwise, they can easily fall into the same category of the "all together" descriptor; They amount to nothing but a generalization.

For this section there is no deduction. I will use this information a little later to make a different deduction. It is important to note when something is an observation to be stored away and when you can use it deduce something. For now, let's just store this information away until we need it. Like the tip mentioned at the beginning of this post, let's assign meaning to these observations.

What does the fact that she wears the same sweater daily to work mean? Where I live, sweaters aren't really expensive compared to wages and my observations tell me that many people wear different sweaters, because they usually own more than one.

Now I can spend a lot fo time trying to figure out things like, "Does she not like shopping? Maybe her dead father gave it to her. They don't have any available answers unless I dig deeper. This is a pitfall that can happen to any of us. We can assign or project our beliefs about things without having any basis for doing so. For this observation the only thing that I can use to make an accurate deduction is to go to my handy syllogism.

Major Premise: People that bring an item with them every day, are habitual. Minor Premise: She brings the item with her every day. Deduction is different depending on the person. Each person has their strengths, and each person has their weaknesses. Just do your best, and you will be able to deduce in now time, my friend!

How is Deduction a Science? Deducing is a science for many reasons. For every science, you must observe, take in all evidence, and make a conclusion upon all the evidence given you. You have qualitative and quantitative observations, and you must take notes of everything, and the method can not be used the same twice. Deductions can be used by everyone, and anyone can deduce. But there are specialists. I can promise you, that other people in the real world do in fact deduce.

You see them everyday in pop culture, and everywhere all over the world. There are people who can be deduced in your neighborhood even. They never say they are. Many jobs use deduction, and many people are quite skilled. Deduction is mostly the fancy word for reading body language. If you read the books, half of his deductions have to do with the way the person is holding their head, or the way they have their arms crossed, or if they are sitting up straight or slouch, or if their eyebrows or furrowed or anything of the like.

So if you can read body language, good for you! You are already a world class deducer yourself! Body Language for Cheaters. Okay, I would love to tell you every single quirk a person does and what it means, but that would be virtually impossible.

Not to mention how bloody long this essay would be if I did. I have though, gathered up some cheaters ways to body language, and just some basic body signals and what they mean.
