What does straight edge mean to you

Trevor feels strongly about people who break edge, and his commitment to the movement is as fiercely held now as it was when he was a teenager. I love being extreme in living life against the grain, and I feel that I always will have that mentality. I know for a fact that I will live the straight edge lifestyle until the day I die.

Ian MacKaye went so far as to shave his head but no one does this as a sign of their devotion anymore.

So: While most teens rebel by taking illicit substances and hooking up, straight edgers are SO hardcore they do the opposite. Essentially, they rebel by rebelling against the rebels. Others announce it — on a reality TV show or otherwise — or embrace it quietly as a way of life. There are even online forums where Straight Edgers can talk to other Straight Edgers about Straight Edge topics including veganism, sports and metal music.

Great to finally see something about Straight Edge in a more main stream lens. The movement was born as a subculture from Hardcore Punk. In many ways, it originated to combat the excesses associated with the punk lifestyle. Straight edge followers are sometimes seen as pious and self-righteous. At times the followers have taken a militant approach but mostly straight edge followers are non-violent.

Or Edgefest, as it is known, is an annual celebration of the straight edge lifestyle. It has been held regularly since way back in The first event was held in Boston, Massachusetts. Given the origins of the straight edge lifestyle these events often heavily feature punk music.

There are a fair number of straight edge bands and the majority of them produce punk. Because some people are more strict than others. Due to the origins of the lifestyle at its core, it is really about making healthy life choices. You may get somebody who claims to be following the philosophy but really all they do is live their life in moderation, rather than fully abstaining from unhealthy substances. More hardcore followers would consider these people to not be straight edge.

Very basically somebody who is straight edge will give up alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.
