The navigation is rubbish, but probably not much less so than that of a Ferrari from this era. The family relationship is clear from the start. But all the details are different. The engine has the same capacity, configuration and, post-upgrade, the same power as the latest LT , but it sounds more anodyne than a S and the response is not the same.
Then again, no McLaren made today rides as well as this. Advertisement Back to top. The brakes are exemplary. First, a modern McLaren — even a less powerful S — feels quite a lot quicker. The gearchange is rather casual, too: the shift itself is still quite quick but the bits either side from issue of instruction to reapplication of power are noticeable, whereas today they are, in effect, absent.
And remember the impressions above are relative to other McLarens: its performance and handling relative to almost any normal high-performance car remain pretty amazing, even today. Your first McLaren may be closer than you think. My advice is to keep calm. If you just park up, get out, lock the car and leave it for three minutes, at least nine times out of 10 that will cure it. Pit that against the Ferrari and Lamborghini Aventador's tendency to catch fire , and the winner is clear. Too bad they couldn't keep the trend going with the newer Senna models. When the time comes to make the decision on whether or not you should get an MPC, one thing will always be of concern: the price.
Thankfully, these McLaren's have become much more affordable over the past eight-years or so. Obviously, depending on the options the buyer selected, it could go far beyond that. Today, the 12C is nowhere near that expensive. In fact, we'd wager that it's one of the best deals on a used supercar out there.
As a big fan of McLaren, we're absolutely thrilled about the recent changes in price. Depreciation can be great for those looking to buy, but not so much for those trying to make a profit. Just another example for why you should stay away from new cars, especially ones that don't hold their value for long.
